College Admission Requirements

According to Texas House Bill 3826, high school students with learning disabilities who would like to attend college must meet the following criteria:

  • Students must complete the recommended high school or distinguished diploma, or its equivalent, to be considered for admission to any general academic teaching institution, including those with open enrollment policies.
  • The student must have received a grade of 70 in each course.
  • The student must have satisfactory performance on the exit level assessment instrument.
  • Accommodations are allowed, but not modifications. The student is not eligible to enroll in a state academic college/university upon graduation from high school if modified exit level assessments (TAKS tests) were taken.
  • If a student graduated under minimum standards and/or took modified TAKS tests, he/she may enroll in a private four year school or a two year community college, and after successful completion of course work, may transfer to a state funded four year institution.

For individuals without a high school diploma interested in attending college, visit the GED Information page.
